Building and Court Deputies

The Durham County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the safety of the general public and employees that utilize the Judicial Building and Judicial Annex. Deputies assigned to court and building security are responsible for: maintaining order in the courtrooms, arranging the transfer of inmates, maintaining custody and control of inmates appearing in court, conducting safety checks, and screening building visitors for weapons and other contraband. 另外, court deputies are responsible for placing defendants in custody immediately after a conviction to ensure they are secured and transferred to the detention facility.

Courthouse Navigator

When a visitor comes to the Durham County courthouse they may encounter a volunteer "courthouse navigator" who is ready to help them navigate the nine-story building, 多个办事处, and hundreds of employees. Currently, there's a bilingual volunteer on staff three days a week from 8:30 a.m. 到11:30 a.m. in the courthouse lobby.
